Welcome
Watermation provides advice and guidance to assist irrigators to use water more efficiently. These include checking of irrigation system design and infield testing of irrigation systems to ascertain performance compliance. The running of programmes to promote the effective use of water is a main priority of this section.
Evaluation of available water resources for small farmer schemes and the design of irrigation systems for these farmers are also undertaken. These include water infrastructure planning, design and construction supervision.
After being in the employ of various irrigation distributors from 1991 to 1999 and gaining valuable product knowledge, Johan Nimb started his own irrigation contracting business in April 1999, known as Watermation Irrigation. The focus in the early years had been to establish a well trained workforce. Watermation Irrigation started off by completing major agricultural irrigation systems in the Boland area. During 2000 we bought the first DitchWitch trenching machine which enabled us to expand the business to do larger contracting projects.
In 2001 Watermation Irrigation qualified to register with the City of Cape Town as a preferred irrigation contractor installing sportsfields, parks & road verges. Since then, over 180 sportsfields were installed with automatic permanent irrigation systems. In Feb 2006 we were awarded the contract for the irrigation upgrade at the Langebaan Country Club. This course now boasts with a Black Knight Signature (Gary Player) accreditation. In March 2006 Watermation Irrigation was the appointed irrigation contractor at L’Ormarins Estate near Franschoek. The owner is the well known South African businessman Johan Rupert. This project turned out to become one of the largest commercial irrigation systems in South Africa . A golfcourse irrigation decoder control system were introduced to control the vast landscaped areas on the farm. In April 2007 we were appointed as irrigation contractor for the upgrading of the irrigation system at the Royal Cape Golf Club in Ottery. Even with one of the wettest winter seasons during the past 25 years, we were able to complete this project on time.
